Tiny Dancer...

...not so much!

After a few too many glasses of wine one evening, I signed myself up for Adult Ballet to get myself through the miserable, monotonous Monday evenings of the upcoming Guernsey winter.

I also wanted to be able to show up my favorite, real ballerina- Mollie.

Let me tell you, a lot has changed in ballet since I was 6 years old...or maybe I just accidentally signed myself up for the advanced class. Thankfully I was able to hide behind the 30+ people in the class at the beginning, but became increasingly horrified as the 90 minute class went on and we broke off into small groups to leap across the dance floor.  I may be 31, but pretty sure I dance like a 78 year old - completely inflexible and even more uncoordinated!

Today as I type this, I can't even point my toes because they are so soar and muscles in my body ache that I didn't even know existed.  Pretty sure my 4 year old niece has proven her point...ballet is no joke!  Now I can see why she would stand on stage, still as a pole, and cry out of fear during her recitals.  I might just be doing the same when mine rolls around!

At the very least, by the end of the 22 weeks, I will be known as the entertainment of the group and I might just be able to touch my toes!

The Clan Arrives in Guernsey

The weather definitely wasn't showing it's better side when both Sues, Theresa and Zach came to visit our little island.   As always, we made the most of it, and thankfully the torrential down poor didn't start until Sunday morning.  We kept busy from the moment they arrived until the moment they left...completely exhausted :)

It started Friday night with happy hour and sunset on Cobo beach, followed by dinner at the Rockmount

Saturday we headed out to the Southern cliffs and made the treck from Jerbourg Point to Petit Bot

That evening we took them to our favorite French spot- Petit Bistro...

...followed by a stop at Christie's for some live music and the abuse of a hen party!

Sunday, with a failed attempt to watch the sailing race, we took the morning easy, had lunch on the Northern part of the island at Houmet Tavern and then Josh whipped up an incredible fish dinner (after a lesson from the best... youtube and Tom Sieger).

And obviously, we don't mess around with dessert in our household!

It was a wonderful weekend with friends and family, and it is always sad to see them go!  Thanks so much for visiting us!  XOXO

Edinburgh

It was a disappointing start to the trip- Theresa and the two Sue's lost a day in the city due to travel delays and Josh and his brother had to cancel their round of golf in the Scottish countryside for one too many reasons.  But that definitely didn't stop us from making the most of our short trip.

 Northbridge

Scott Monument- Josh and his brother kicked the bagpipes to the curb for the photo op.

 National Gallery of Scotland

 West Princes Street Gardens

Street market with the castle in the background

Time to hit the pubs

With one weary traveller asleep and the other three yet to arrive, Josh and I got to enjoy a date night at the Cambridge.

Day 2...time to play catch up with the rest of the crew.  Starting with a walk up the Royal Mile to the Castle.

View of Edinburgh from the Castle

Josh is on the other side...not too sure about this!?!

Battle of Britain

The one day that I take full advantage of every minute of my lunch break is the day of Battle of Britain air display.  From 11:00-1:00, anything that flies, does so right over Guernsey and Castle Cornet.  The finale includes the 7 planes that make up the red arrows.

Deep Sea Fishing

The perks of working for PwC and entertaining clients or being entertained are endless.  After a three course, wine & dine lunch at Christies, Josh and a group of co-workers and clients spent late afternoon deep sea fishing.  100 fish were caught between the 9 of them, and somehow one, larger then me, is camping out in our freezer (after a proud fisherman who had one too many beers was showing off his catch and dropped it on our kitchen floor).
